Kelly Brianne Clarkson was born April 24, 1982 in Fort Worth, Texas, and grew up in the small town of Burleson, a suburb of Fort Worth. She is the third and youngest child of Jeanne Rose, a first grade English teacher of Greek descent, and Stephen Michael Clarkson, a former engineer of Welsh extraction.
Kelly Clarkson's siblings include her older brother and sister, Jason and Alyssa. When Clarkson was six years old, her parents divorced after seventeen years of marriage. The family settled in Burleson, where Clarkson's mother married her second husband, Jimmy Taylor
Kelly Clarkson's family struggled financially, and after her parents divorced, music became her refuge. In middle school, Kelly was overheard singing in a school corridor by a teacher, who invited her to join the school choir. That made her interested in a full-time music career and following her high school graduation, she relocated to Los Angeles, California.
Kelly Clarkson worked as an extra on television (on Sabrina the Teenage Witch) and worked briefly with songwriter Gerry Goffin. After her Los Angeles apartment burned down, however, she moved back to Texas, discouraged but still intent on a career in show business. She still managed some odd jobs such as cocktail waitressing, being a Red Bull promo girl, and telemarketing.
Kelly Clarkson auditioned for American Idol along with ten thousand other people in 2002. Impressed by her performance, the panel of judges put her through to the next round. Upon landing a final thirty spot, Clarkson was praised by the judges for her rendition of Aretha Franklin's "Respect". She moved on to the final ten, receiving a number two spot in her group. Once in the top ten, Clarkson gradually moved into the position of competition favorite, performing songs such as Carole King's "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" and Bette Midler's "Stuff Like That There".

She claimed number one on March 1, 2009 Pls "My Life Would Suck Without You" debuted number one on downloads alone. She has sold over 10.2 million albums in the United States, and over 20 million albums worldwide, Becoming the highest-selling Idol winner. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Clarkson Is Also Ranked on the Top 200 album sellers of the Nielsen SoundScan era, at number 187.
In late-February 2011, Clarkson announced via Twitter that her last song before the album's completion was being produced by Darkchild. Clarkson, in an announcement to her fans stated that the album "was influenced by Prince, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, Radiohead and there's a little bit of a country vibe/influence on a couple of songs."
On March 15, 2011, Kelly Clarkson announced via Facebook that "I recently found out that my album won't be coming out until September...The album has been recorded but I can't release it until then. I realize that is a long time but that's the best time to release it apparently, so I'm sorry for the wait but I promise you it sounds great!". Claude Kelly, Clarkson's producer and co-writter, said to MTV News that "They (Record Company) want to make sure that the arena is clean for Kelly Clarkson's return, 'cause when she comes back, she always comes back pretty big. They want to make sure when her first single comes out, there's nothing out there that's competing with it. I don't know for sure, but Kelly always does it big, so when it comes out, the fans will be happy and she'll sing her butt off and it'll be good times.
